We Will Hear Your Cry: Intro to Critical Reading and Writing

Conclusion

conclusion(21).jpg

Well, students, this is the end of your unit on critical reading and writing.

By now you should be able to answer the questions posed to you at the beginning of the the unit:

  • What is setting, and how does it help the story?
  • What is the tone of the novel?
  • What types of conflict do each of the characters experience?
  • What is the point of view of the novel, and does this aid or hinder the story?
  • Do we ever encounter the narrator's opinion of something rather than simple fact-telling?

You should also be able to step outside yourself and into the shoes anyone whom you choose.

  • How did it feel to imagine yourself as an African-American in the segregated South?
  • How did it feel to imagine experiencing racism for the first time?
  • How did it feel to struggle with understanding why you are not accepted because of the color of your skin?

Remember, student, reading and writing are not just about succeeding in the classroom.

Reading and writing well are what set the African-American family free!
