Task (Assignment): To examine the effectiveness of a Marketing Plan in business -
How effective is the use of a Marketing Plan in business?


Working in teams of four, you are required to conduct research (using the web resources in this WebQuest), to explain a new fresh or frozen food product (suitable for diabetics) and to develop a marketing plan for this product for the Irish market. In each team, one student will take on the role of marketing manager, another student will be the new product development manager, another will be the financial accounting manager and finally, one student will take on the role of production and operations manager. 

Task A: An explanation of a new fresh or frozen food product (suitable for diabetics) for the Irish market
Task A requires your team to explain a new fresh or frozen food product (suitable for diabetics) for the Irish market. Where possible, be as creative and original as possible when explaining this new fresh or frozen food product (suitable for diabetics). Your product will be sold in supermarkets, vending machines and restaurants. You may also wish to sell this new food product online (where feasible). You are not required to create an actual new fresh or frozen food product (suitable for diabetics), as it is not of concern for this assignment.  The following link will provide information on diabetes in Ireland https://www.diabetes.ie/

Task B: Devise a marketing plan for this new food product
Task B requires your team to develop a marketing plan for your new food product for the Irish market. In this plan, you must include your target market, how you will segment, target and position this product. Your marketing plan must also include each variable of the marketing mix (4Ps) – Product, Price, Place and Promotion.  Each team has one month to plan, prepare and submit this marketing plan. This task incorporates group oral presentations and the written document i.e. the marketing plan. Each team will present their marketing plan to the class, to me (lecturer) and one other lecturer within the department. Each team will have 12 minutes for their presentation. How you allocate the time is up to each team!!!!!!!!!. However, the following criteria for your presentation must be adhered to: 

  • A minimum of 12 slides (including the title slide)
  • A rationale for your choice of product must be included 
  • You should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of your new product and its targeted and segmented market
  • The marketing mix must also be elaborated upon (in detail).


The marketing plan must be written, in a MS word document. It must not be more than 12 double-spaced typewritten pages. Each student must write his or her own section; based on the type of manager you are (e.g. marketing manager, new product development manager, financial accounting manager and the production and operations manager). Students, who plagiarise their work, will receive a 0 for the work submitted. See below attachments for additional information and resources.
