Festival celebrations

STEP 1 Group A, take a look at the first link which shows the first festival and briefly describe the major characteristics to Group B which is supposed to guess the kind of festival you are describing. Then, Group B, you will do the same with the second link.

STEP 2 Now at this point, both groups can spend some time watching both links and search for more details. You can work in pairs and make sentences with the following useful vocabulary: * spectacular show * bands marching * dog sled race * ice castle * sleigh rides * fireworks * traditional Scottish music * grand finale.

STEP 3 Both groups: Please complete the tree diagrams in the attached file ("Please fill-in the blanks")
 with all the necessary information.

STEP 4 Based on the previous information, you will haveto spot some basic similarities and differences between the two festivals.      Group A, please find the similarities and Group B please find the differences. Then, work together and present your findings to the class.

STEP 5 Act out a dialogue as if you have recently attended one of the festivals. Student A will be the interviewer and Student B the interviewee. Ask and answer questions about the place, the atmosphere, the events, your feelings and emotions.

STEP 6 Write a short article about a festival in your country. Write about: its name, when and where it takes place, the reason for the celebration, the main events (60 � 80 words).
