The Discriminant: the Inside Scoop of the Quadratic Equation

In the previous class period, we looked at the derivation of the Quadratic Formula, and identified its three components:

          The quadratic divisor, 2a;

          The linear term, -b;

          The discriminant, b²-4ac.

In this webquest, you will be investigating the effect of the discriminant on the solution of various quadratic equations.  You will determine if there is any relationship between the value of the discriminant and the possible roots of the quadratic equation it represents.
