Throughout history artists have provided expressions of visual literacy regarding their arguments of social justice, social responsibility, and human rights as statements for reform and revolution. Artists in the classroom, will develop their skills in research as they investigate the issue of equality for women in their fight for the right to vote throughout history and be able to compare and contrast their findings to the current perspective of voting today. Students will form an "artists as activists" organization as they critically evaluate the history and the current practice of contemporary Canadian women and men as they look at the current trend of apathy towards voting. They will form their own philosophy of one's right to vote. Incorporate their philosophy and personal statement in a visual statement thus developing their own contemporary visual literacy through the use of the medium of their choice - photography, drawing, painting, text and/or mixed media.
