Race across China

.  You must race across China.  Your race starts in  Taiwan.  You have $2000.00 to travel from Taiwan to Kathmandu, Nepal. 
To complete the race you must travel across China.  You will visit one major city in Taiwan and document your visit in your diary.  From there you will travel to Shanghai. For extra credit, tell me what the term "getting Shanghaied" means and where the term orginated.
The expense for the travel is recorded on your expense account. On your race across China, you must  do the following.
1. Document your race across China.  Use the question and answer pages provided to help you document your journey.  Submit these with your diary.
2. At the end of your race, provide a detailed diary of your race using your question and answer pages as a guide.
3. You must plan for transportation from one area of China to the other.  Your record must be submitted with your diary.
4. You must keep an expense account of the money you spent.  Each team starts with $2000.00.  If you need to raise money, you must document how you raised the money.  Ex. planted rice for a day, earned $5.00. Be sure to document all expenses.  This includes food, travel, lodging, and other expenses.   This must be submitted with your diary.
5. You must map out your race.  This must be submitted with diary.
6. Do not forget you will need lodging as you race across China.  This must be included in your diary.
7. Visit one major tourist site along the way and answer questions about this site.  Include this in your diary.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
8. You must visit one remote province.  When you visit the remote province, you may visit a city.  Complete the questions on the province or city.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
9. Sample some local food and drink.  Include this in your diary.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
10. Spend some time with a family in a city and in the country.  Write about your experiences in your diary.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
11. Visit a school. In your diary, tell how schools in China differ from those in the United States. Submit all paper work with your diary.
12. Visit a religious site. Document the visit in your diary.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
13. Find a historical site and note the importance of this site.  Submit all paper work with your diary.
14.  Research one of China's Dynasties.  This may be done along with researching a province, historical site, religious site or any way you can tie it into your travels.    Submit all paper work with your diary.
15. You need to have some money left to start the next leg of your race.
16.  Rememeber to plan the geography into your travels, ex. how to cross a river or mountain.
17. Pick a meeting site in Kathmandu to end your race.
