Who Are We?

Process

After researching who you are and what that diversity can contribute to the classroom, you will present that information to the class.  This self realization will help you realize that you are not a student with a purpose of regurgitating information to pass a test, but to offer your experience to enhance others' experiences in the classroom.  You will receive initial feedback on this assignment which will count towards your grade and then at the end of the year I will provide further feedback on your contributions to see if they have met your expectations which will not count toward your grade.

Step 1: Do the research.  Interview family members to realize heritage, to understand cultural differences which you incorporate into everyday life and my not consciously realize leads to diversity within a group.  Utilize the internet, library resources or credible resources to research in depth where your family comes from or a culture you identify with.

Step 2:  Develop a presentation.  You will be responsible to present this information to the class.  Develop a coherent presentation of your information to help your classmates meet who you really are.  Be creative!  This is your opportunity to demonstrate your creativeness to talk about the one topic you should know best; you!  If you are not creative, utilize video, slide show or technology to make a presentation.

Step 3:  You will introduce yourself to the class.  This is where your 3 to 5 minute presentation will be viewed by the class.  You will turn in your presentation to me a day before classroom presentations will begin to ensure all material is classroom appropriate.  You may make an oral presentation with visual aids or a presentation/video which only needs an introduction.  If you opt to do an oral presentation, please submit a rough draft of notes you will cover in your presentation with your visual aids.
