Spain covers an area of 505,955 square kilometres, making it one of the top 50 largest countries in the world.

The largest part of country is located in the Iberian Peninsula, which Spain shares with Portugal. Spain also has two groups of islands, the Balearics Islands and the Canary Islands. Spain also has two cities that are located on the coast of Africa; they are the cities of  Ceuta and Melilla.  The Iberian Peninsula is in the extreme south west of Europe and only 14 kilometres away from the African continent.  As Spain is on a peninsula it has a long  coastline, which runs along the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The climate ranges from the mild North to the very hot and dry South. Spain can be wet in the north and have many green mountain areas.
