WebQuest

Let's go to Ireland!

Teacher Page

This webquest is composed by several activities students have to do at home. The activites should not take students more than 15 minutes each.

If you would like to use this resource in your teaching lessons, it would be very useful and interesting! You only have to explain students what a webquest consists on, since all the information needed to do the tasks is already provided in it.

Students will love it!

Standards

Language is a basic and essential aspect in the current society. With the acquisition of a foreign language, students not only learn its theoretical aspects but they also apply them to practical contexts such as communicative situations.

The development of the linguistic key competence is one of the main objectives students need to achieve according to the Spanish curriculum described in the RD 1105/2014. While learning a foreign language, students deal with all its components: linguistic, pragmatic-discursive, sociocultural, strategic and personal. Thus, the activities proposed are chosen to develop this competence, among others, through the use of specific verbal tenses (see First session, activity 2) and vocabulary (see First session, activity 7).

Besides, these activities also deal with other key competences, namely: digital competence, by means of using the webquest and the online investigations it requires and, during session two, throughout the ‘Locked box’ game; learning to learn, due to the fact that students are the main protagonist of their own learning, since they are the ones in charge of looking for the information needed to complete the tasks, by using the links provided; social and civic competence, by means of collaborating with the rest of their classmates and group coworkers; and cultural awareness and expression, as this lesson plan is based on the main cultural aspects of Ireland, students are expected to acquire some knowledge about the Irish culture and be able to recognise the differences and similarities between it and their own culture.

This lesson plan works with three important points from the Organic Law for Improvement of the Quality of Education (LOMCE), namely diversity, involvement and assimilation in different contexts. Furthermore, it wides the range of potential working opportunities for pupils. These ideas are strengthened throughout active methodologies such as gamification and some others based on the ICTs.

It is important to promote the idea that acquiring a foreign language goes further than learning the language itself, since it covers the sociocultural aspects of other countries and, therefore, it requires broadening minds for tolerance and acceptance in this globalized world. Our lesson plan encourages all these aspects in order to transmit them to the student body in a entertainment but effective way by following, again, the key point of the Organic Law for Improvement of the Quality of Education (LOMCE).
