As a result of this WebQuest, students will
be introduced to checking, bookkeeping, Excel spreadsheets, and personal
finance. Through the steps of working together in a Jigsaw format, they will
learn about the different aspects of a checking account and share their
findings as they use critical thinking to knit the group in a common
understanding of all the components from why we use checks, to writing a check,
tracking their spending, and reconciling with the bank. Our interactive program
allows students show their different strengths through writing, oral
presentation, and manipulating data on spread sheets as they bring it all together.
Team work and compromising will be key elements in this group project.

Your students will not only learn about
business and finance, but gain a new perspective on working with positive
versus negative numbers and applying that knowledge in a real world setting.
The program also reinforces reading, writing, and interpersonal communication.
All websites are listed below, but can be substituted with more up to date
sites as they come available.

To use this WebQuest, your students will be
expected to have access to a word processor and spreadsheet software. If you
substitute Open office or another spreadsheet program, the appropriate tutorial
will need to be substituted as well. The project is expected to take a single
class period in a block schedule environment or two classes within a
traditional setting.

This WebQuest was created in Miami-Dades
class for Technology with the help of our professor, Valencia Gabriel.
