This WebQuest is a lesson about border conflict in Pennsylvania, specifically the conflict to define the current border between Maryland and Pennsylvania, the Mason/Dixon line.  Numerous Website have been given for the student to use for investigate research about the 80 plus years of conflict and controversy over the definition of Pennsylvania's southern border with Maryland.

There are three generalized questions that should be divided among three students to investigate, as individuals, to produce a bullet-ed list of facts for each question.  The students then collaborate, using their bullet-ed results, in a discussion session using all of their research to understand the causes and aspects of the conflict.  The students will then pick a side in the conflict, as individuals, to defend in a final class discussion of the lesson.  As a homework assignment, the students will write a three paragraph explanation generalizing  the border conflict between PA and MD.  This is an individual homework assignment to summarize the lesson in a written format .

The individual portion should take about 20-25 minutes.
The collaborate portion should take about 15 minutes.
The class division and initial discussion will be about 10 minutes.
The class discussion may continue as the warm up for the next lesson.
