The Borders of Pennsylvania

Conclusion

20150417022104eWuga.jpg

As you researched this topic I am sure you found that the creation of borders for Pennsylvania was not a clear cut decision or a once and done proposition.   There were many other border conflicts that were both politically and personally motivated by many parties over a very long time period.  There were many factors including , purposeful or accidental misinterpretations of granted lands, cultural and political allegiance to different states, and the initial granted tittle of the time were imprecise at best, overlapping at worst, which created controversy from the beginning.

The Mason/Dixon line was the most famous border controversy that defined the shape for Pennsylvania, but there were many more.  That's all the time we have for this topic but there are at least four more border areas we can learn about.  See the list below, pick one out, or find one on your own, to learn about. Be ready to share an overview with the class next time we meet.  Extra credit will be given!

Other Pennsylvania Border Controversies :
  1. Northern border with New York
  2. Southeastern border with Delaware
  3. Western territory, French and Indian War
  4. Southwestern border with Virginia
