Focus:

This webquest focuses on Toni Morrison’s contemporary novel, ‘Beloved’. The point of this webquest is to enable the students to reread the novel with a greater sensitivity and understanding of the suffering incurred by the characters. It is also aimed at showing students the dire repercussions of racism.  This webquest will also unleash the learners' creativity, organizing skills and writing skills.

 

Objectives/Goals: 

I would recommend to use this webquest with students who are taking up British Literature, British-American Literature and the like.

 

·         Students will learn about the life of Toni Morrison and about the lives of other people who suffered during the days of Apartheid.

·         Students will discover new insights when rereading the novel ‘Beloved’ due to the research they will have carried out.

·         Students are given the opportunity to write a play where Beloved gets one last chance to settle the score.

·         Students will express their ideas about the characters in the novel ‘Beloved’.

·         Students will have fun and appreciate Toni Morrison whilst discovering information about the time she is writing about which is reflected in all her works.

·         Students will get the chance to make a powerpoint presentation on racism.
