Who are YOU?

 The first step in this process is to decide which character you will play in your group. Will you be: 

 1. Denver, the sister who survived when her mother went on a killing spree in her attempt to save her children from the hardships of slavery?

 2. Beloved, the one who has the greatest cause for resentment as she alone was killed on that fateful night?

 3. Sethe, their mother, who tried to perform "euthanasia" on her children in an attempt to save them from the cruelties that awaited them?

 4. Paul D., an old friend of Sethe's, who is unwillingly caught up in the harrowing events narrated in the novel?

 While you write your play, you will visit websites to discover facts about racism, Apartheid and slavery, which will enable you to better understand what the characters, who represent a whole race, have been through. Your team will also prepare a small presentation about racism which will be presented to the class at the end of the unit.
