Visual Literacy: Connections Between the Visual and the Verbal

Task

20100511060443VeSuT.jpg

The objective is for you to take a closer look at the image. Comb over the image with your eyes to find details that you can relate to. You are to bring your own personal experiences (these are things that you know about or maybe have participated in before) to the work of art that you select. You are to understand that when an artists makes a work of art there is usually a reason for it. In the art world this is called the artists' intent- why the work was created.

After a work of art has been selected, use the Venn Diagram to start examining the image and reflect on those things that are familiar to you to gather the meaning of the work of art.

Next, based upon your findings about the selected piece,  create a power point that includes the following information...

1. A copy of the art work that is selected. Include the museum where the art work can be found, name and original title of the art work and the name of the artist.

2. sample of objects that relate to the art work...clip art will work fine.

3. Choose between 5 to 10 words that relate to the art work. Of those words selected choose a minimum of 3 that you will use to create a new title for the art object.

4. On the last slide, write a brief comment about what you believe the meaning of the art work.
