Ni�os Soldados

You will be assigned to a country or geographical region of the world.  You will be assigned a specific role within each country.  You will read about your organization and share the goals and other information about your organization with others in your group.  Each region / country will be assigned an advocate from Amnesty International, the Peace Corps, the International Rescue Committee and Samaritan's Purse.  You will present a 3 minute report on your organization's efforts to expose the problem of child soldiers.  Using the information from your team members, you will then write a three page paper highlighting the efforts of the organizations in your country and what should be done to bring an end to the problem.

Step  # 1  Everyone will read the assigned selections from A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Baeh (see link below) and the United Nations report on Child Soldiers (en espa�ol - abajo).  As your are reading the material, note the living conditions that existed prior to child recruitment and if there were safeguards in place to prevent this.  Make a list of any cultural differences between these societies and your own.  

Step  # 2   Each person in your group will be assigned a role as a volunteer from the following organizations � Amnesty International,the Peace Corps,  the International Rescue Committee and Samaritan�s Purse.  In order to understand the mission of these organizations, see the attached link for your particular organization. Make a list of the activities you might be involved in to advocate on behalf of child soldiers.  Share the information with members of your group.

 Step  # 3   Watch the video on child soldiers for your assigned country or region of the world � Africa, the Islamic State and Colombia.  Make a list of your reactions to what you see.  As a member of your assigned organization, what specific things will you do in order to advocate for the particular children you observe.

Step  #  4    Read the article related to your assigned country.  Make connections between the article and the video.  As a representative of your organization, make a list of the specific issues you want to highlight.

Step # 5     Prepare and deliver your oral presentation in Spanish.  Include visuals.
