American Romantic Period

Have you ever wondered what it meant to be an American? What makes Americans so different from the rest of the people of the world? In this Webquest, you will gather information and read poetry and fiction to answer those questions and more! You will read a variety of poets and writers who created a literary movement called American Romanticism; aimed to identify and describe the people, the spirit, and identity of the people that made up the new and expanding country. Some readings will require you to use historical events, facts, issues, and ideas to identify, explain and discuss the themes of the text. So it may feel like a history class at times, but it's all to help you really understand the things that inspired the writers of the American Romantic period (1810-1850).
