Thomas Jefferson was the President of the United States from 1801 to 1809.  In 1803, the Louisiana Purchase was made by Jefferson which doubled the size of the United States.  It has been said that his actions in the purchase were unconstitutional.  Thomas Jefferson asked Meriwether Lewis to head an expedition to map out the new territory gained by the Louisiana Purchase.  Meriwether Lewis set out on the expedition in 1804 with William Clark as his co-captain.  You have been asked to be a juror in a trial to determine whether or not the Lewis and Clark expedition is a representation of Manifest Destiny.  In order to make an informed decision you will need to investigate the people involved and the events that lead up to the expedition.  You will have one week to complete your investigation.  At the end of your investigation you will be asked to cast your vote among your fellow jurors to determine a collaborative yes or no answer to this thought provoking question.
