 If you are writing an essay: write 1-2 paragraph for your essay that answers the prompts below. 
�Summarize and describe the event (5 points each, total of 15 points possible for 3 events)

�Evaluate whether the checks and balances kept one branch of the government from exercising too much power during the event, and state your position. (5 points each event, 15 points possible for 3 events)

� Back up your position  in one of the following ways: at least 2 examples of a branch of the government exercising their constitutional powers OR Back up your position with at least one example of one branch using checks and balances towards another branch OR Indicate one way a branch could have used checks and balances towards another branch, but did not. (5 points each, total of 15 points possible for 3 events)

�Be sure to create a reference slide and add your source(s) to your reference slide. Use www.citationmachine.net to format your references. Ask your teacher which style to use if you are not sure. The references should be on a separate reference page if you are writing an essay. (5 points for 3 total references)

Argument/ summary scoring essay:

description of your position explaining why you believe the checks and balances 
system of government is or is not an effective form of government. (10 points)
 Provide at least 3 specific examples of checks and balances that worked or did not 
work from your research (10 points)
 The essay introduction/ conclusion paragraphs (3 points)
Separate reference page at the end of the essay (3 points)


PowerPoint presentation Scoring:
