Focus:

The point of this exercise is to enhance the students' abilities regarding art, making up narrations, and creating a link between the two, leading the students to appreciate the art of comics.

Objectives/Goals:

By the end of the three tasks, the students will be able to create a comic and therefore understand that even though a comic is regarded as 'rubbish' or 'junk reading' it is not. It is a means of expression and exploration in fictional characters formed into coloured figures and people you can relate to.

Resources:

Internet resources, videos, information from the book 'The Language of Comics' by Mario Saraceni.

Time Required:

2 weeks - first week: research, second week: practice

The students will be encouraged to research some information as told on the web quest (task 1) and will be asked to read a comic of their choice to enhance their experience regarding comics.

Personal Comments

We believe that in today's society there is a need for students, especially art students who have a right to distinguish different art forms including comics. It is unfortunate that this type of art is overlooked and is disregarded by many people. This would also be ideal to use in an art syllabus as it stimulates both art and literature qualities in the students. Therefore the students will be able to connect and use both skills in the future even if it means developing his art skills as a young artist.
