Digging Deeper with Stone Fox

Introduction:
This assignment was created for the the student to take a deeper look at Stone Fox. They will do so by researching the state of Wyoming and dogsled racing. The lesson gives the student a chance to show their comprehension of the story by creating an article for the Jackson, Wyoming newspaper. Also, the students can use their creativity in designing a t-shirt for the entrants. The lesson will take about a week to complete.
Learners:
This lesson was intended for third graders and involves the language arts.

Language Arts Standards addressed:
* Retelling in sequence the story elements of grade-level text and major ideas and relevent details.
* Use the writing process to produce a research project and use resources.
* Apply a variety of writing processes
Resources needed:
* Class set of Stone Fox by john Reynolds Gardiner.
Evaluation:
* Allow for ample time on the computers to complete research. If students are not familiar with the internet, take time out prior to the assignment to explain the internet.
* Remind them not to do too much researching without writing something.
* Have students turn in something everyday.
