Reading Rangers,

Off we go on our WWR Safari.  During this safari you will discover some great rhyming books and look closely at the things that the authors do to make good rhyming books.  You will have to decide which rhyming books are the best out of the collection you find and use them for ideas on writing your own rhyming books for the tiny tots playgroup.

Going on the safari will mean that you and your fellow rangers will do a lot of clever things like;
  • reading each other's stories and thinking of ways to make them better
  • use letter sounds to make rhymes
  • read rhyming books
  • decide which books and writers you like best
  • listen to rhymes and poems
  • talk about rhymes with your group partners and listen to what they say
Wow, by the time you have finished your WWR Safari you will have to go up from Reading Rangers to Sentence Superheroes and be given your new badges.  To be a Sentence Superhero, you must do the most important thing of all;
  • Write your own rhyming book for the tiny tots

Lets get the tools you will need for the safari, rangers that go on safari without the right tools for survival can find themselves in some very bad spots.

What you will need;
  • Your library bag - for rounding up the books you find in the Wide World of Rhyming
  • Your group partners - for each task you will all have different roles to play, the roles will change each time so everyone gets to practice the skills
  • Your WWR Safari Log Book - this is where you will do the activities that will teach you how to write a great rhyme
  • Your Reading Ranger badge - that way your fellow rangers will know you are a good guy
Make sure you look out for Rhyming Ratbags and their Rascal Rhymes.

Below is a rhyme to get you started, then print your tools and you're ready to go
