Using Calculus to Determine the Size of a Box of Maximum Volume

You will search the internet for applications of optimization in business and industry.

Then you will create 4 boxes by cutting squares of a given size from the corners of pieces of paper.

You will determine the dimensions and volume of each box to determine the box with the largest volume.

You will view a video and go to a website to learn how to do the same problem using algebra and calculus.

Then you will determine the box with the largest volume using algebra and calculus and compare the two methods.

Finally, you will search the internet to get dimensions of a shipping box and determine the volume of the box.

Then you will determine the original dimensions for the material from which the box was made.

Using the original dimensions, you will determine the  dimensions and volume of the box with maximum volume and compare the results.
