Nursery Rhymes

Process

20170623031229tytaZ.gif

1.  We will start by reading 10 different nursery rhymes as a class.

2.  You will each write your name on a sticky note, and put your name on your favorite nursery rhyme.

3.  Everyone will be split up into groups based on the nursery rhyme you picked.  If there are too many people on one rhyme, then I will ask each of you if you want to pick a different one, otherwise we will have two groups with the same rhyme.

4.  In your groups, you will read stories and poems of your nursery rhymes and watch a fun video/song about your rhyme.  Find your video in the links below.

5.  After watching the video and reading the nursery rhyme with your group, you will each make your own book about your rhyme.

6.  I will give you a copy of the words to your nursery rhyme, and you will write the words and illustrate them on each page.  Your book should start with a title page that has the name of the nursery rhyme along with your name since you are the author and illustrator!  Then, the last page will be an explanation of why this rhyme was your favorite, something you learned about the rhyme, or something you found interesting.  When finished, you will each share your book with your group.

7.  When everyone is finished, we will share our nursery rhymes to the class by group.

8.  Your group will start by either singing the song from the video or just reading us the nursery rhyme (you have to decide this together as a group so that everyone is participating).  Then each of you will share your book.  We will do this by just sharing the pictures you drew, and then reading the last page to the class about why this rhyme was your favorite, something you learned about the rhyme, or something you found interesting.

9.  We will keep the books in our classroom nursery rhyme tub to be shared with everyone, and will eventually take them home to share with our families.
