Great safari hunting Reading Rangers!!  Its now time to use what you collected and do some investigating.

What rhyming sounds like

Do you think that when you say a rhyme, the way it sounds makes a pattern?  Do you think there are words that sound the same?  Lets see what we can find out.  Its time to go into the Wide World of Rhyming.

Hairy Maclary

Have a look at the Hairy Maclary video below and see if you can hear words and sentences that sound like each other.  Maybe you can hear some patterns.

Did you hear any sentences and words that sounded the same as each other?  Go to the Hairy Maclary page of your logbook and write some down so you can remember them later.  They might come in handy for your rhyming book.  If you need to watch the video a few more times that is fine, play it as often as you need to.

Play the video a couple more times and try to clap the pattern that the words make.  There are some copies of the book in the classroom bookshelf, try one person reading a page of the book while another person claps the pattern.  Give everyone a turn of reading, and everyone a turn of clapping.

Where Is The Green Sheep

Where Is The Green Sheep is a story that tiny tots love to read.  It has lots of rhyming and lots of patterns in it.  Can you find the clapping pattern of Where Is The Green Sheep?

Keep practicing until you can all clap along.

Can you clap along to the pattern while someone reads the story of Where Is The Green Sheep?  Grab a copy from the classroom bookshelf and have a try.  Make sure everyone gets a turn at reading and everyone gets a turn at clapping.

The Alphabet Rhyme

Do you remember the alphabet rhyme?  Click on the link below to hear it.  See if you can clap along to it.  Keep trying until all your group can clap along.

Find the Alphabet Rhyme page of your logbook and see if you can write down the pattern the alphabet rhyme makes.

Baa Baa Black Sheep

Lets practice listening to the patterns in rhymes one more time.  Have a look at the Baa Baa Black Sheep video below.  Try to clap along.  Practice a couple of times until all the members of your group can clap along.

Time to write down how you used your Reading Ranger knowledge in your logbook on the Baa Baa Black Sheep page.

Clapping Along Together

Which rhyme was your group's favourite rhyme to clap along to?
Maybe it was the one you already knew the words to really well.
Maybe it was the one that makes you feel like dancing.
Maybe it was the one that has sheep in it because you really like sheep.

Use the Clapping Along Together page of the logbook to decide which rhyme your group likes best.  Once you have picked the group's favourite, practice it a few more times.  Then all the groups are going to sing their rhyme and clap along to it for the class.

Just For Fun

There are two more rhyming videos below, have a listen, just for fun.
