COASTAL LAND FORM

Malaysia has a long coastline, which is about 4800 miles.
The west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, facing the Straits of Malacca. East coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak coast and west coast of Sabah facing the South China Sea. While the east coast facing the Sulu Sea.
Malaysia surrounded by a shallow sea because it is located on the continental shelf known as Sunda stage.
Sunda Stage features are:

a) the shallow areas.

b) Formed about 550juta years ago.

c) The depth between 70 meters to 180 meters.

d) It is important to different types of economic activities such as tourism, fisheries and mining.

Coastal forms are common: high cliffs, bays, headlands, caves, sea arches, stone stumps, waste rock, beach, sand bars, child cape (tetanjung), tombolo, Laguna.
