Under the Sea - Adding and Subtracting

The objective of this webquest is that a student will be able to model and create addition and subtraction problem situations with concrete objects and write corresponding number sentences as well as to use concrete and pictorial models to apply basic addition and subtraction facts.


Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
(3) Number, operation, and quantitative reasoning. The student recognizes and solves problems in addition and subtraction situations. The student is expected to:
(A) Model and create addition and subtraction problem situations with concrete objects and write corresponding numbers sentences; and
(B) Use conrete and pictorial models to apply basic addition and subtraction facts (up to 9+9=18 and 18-9=9).

NCTM Standards: Grades Prek-K - 2
In prekindergarten through grade 2 all students should:
-Understand various meanings of subtraction and addition of whole numbers and the relationship between the two operations; and
-Understand the effects of adding and subtracting whole numbers.
