Digital Media on the road

Teacher Page

This WQ was developed to meet several AASL Standards for the 21st Century Learner.  It is meant to provide a real-world project (finding websites for me to share with 6th graders) with exploring several sites; class and paired discussions; and with deciding what would make good choices for 6th graders.
The need for this: I teach digital photography as an "Extra" and some of the students are multiple repeats. To keep the subject fresh for all concerned, I decided to enlist the help of the older students. Also, the responsibilities of our digital citizens are becoming clearer as we become more and more tied to the use of social networking sites where students are able to share information about themselves.

The AASL standards are:

Skill of Inquiry
1.1.6 :  Read, view, and listen for information presented in any format (e.g., textual, visual, media, digital) in order to make inferences and gather meaning.
Benchmark: Evaluate, paraphrase, and summarize information in various formats

2.1.3 :  Use strategies to draw conclusions from information and apply knowledge to curricular areas, real-world situations, and further investigations.
Benchmark: Form opinions and judgments backed up by supporting evidence

3.1.6 :  Use information and technology ethically and responsibly
Benchmark: Practice responsible use of technology

4.1.2. : Read widely and fluently to make c0nnections with self, the world and [with] previous reading.
Benchmark: Read [and listen] with purpose to investigate new ideas beyond the required curriculum
