Quadrilaterals

Teacher Page

This webquest explores special quadrilaterals and parallelograms: square, rectangle, rhombus, kite, and trapezoid.  It is designed to be a jigsaw activity with 5 students in each group.  Each group member should be assigned one of the 5 shapes (square, rectangle, rhombus, kite, or trapezoid).  Each member is in charge of researching the properties of their shape as well as familiarizing themselves with the basic definitions/properties of a parallelogram and quadrilateral.

Timing:  The webquest is designed to take 2 90 minute blocks (if you use the entire webquest).

Prior Knowledge:  Students should be somewhat familiar with a quadrilateral and parallelogram.  However, they will review what both of these mean in the 'Tasks' page.  Students should also be familiar with Geogebra, or the teacher should be prepared to model how to use Geogebra.

The Webquest only delves into the properties of the shapes mentioned.

Before the lesson, the teacher should print off the guided notes located on the 'Tasks' page and the worksheets located on the 'Process' page.  The teacher should also create answer keys for the 4 worksheets.  I would also recommend familiarizing yourself with IXL (website used for quizzes on the 'Evaluation' page).

Standards

This lesson is created for Integrated Math 1 or Geometry.  This is intended for a 9th grade classroom.  This helps students learn the properties of parallelograms that might be used in proofs.  The teacher should use this before completing any two-column proofs on parallelograms.

Standards:  M1.G.CO.C.11 Prove theorems about parallelograms.
