Exploration of the Southeast

I plan on using this webquest with my fifth graders in New York State. Our school's social studies curriculum requires our students to meet New York State Standards in Social Studies as well as meet the school's curriculum requirements. In fifth grade, students are to study the regions of the United States, as well as Canada and Latin America. Students are required to learn about the geography, history, climate, and economy of each area.

Since all students will be paired with a partner, students should be able to complete the webquest at any learning level. I plan to pair students myself, keeping in mind each student's learning ability level, personality, learning style, and leadership abilities. Students with special needs in reading and writing will be paired with a more able partner, will have the opportunity to work with a teacher's aide or special education teacher, or will be placed in close proximity to the classroom teacher to receive the help he/she needs.

For this unit, I plan to have my students complete the webquest and watch some informational videos that are available to us in our school library. I will then have students "share out" their findings in a "news conference" as was referenced in the introduction and task section of the webquest.

Many of the pictures contained in the webquest were obtained from "Google Images". I did not create any of the informational websites.
