The History of Civil Rights!

This five day WebQuest is designed to teach 1st grade students about the history of civil rights using the Arizona State Standards. Students start day one learning about the history of the Civil Rights Movements, as well as some key historical people. Day by day students learn more about civil rights and how it relates to the social studies curriculum. Day two they learn how civil rights has paved the way for Barack Obama to be elected President of the United States, and in day three students learn what it means to be a citizen within a community or classroom. They also learn why it is important to stand up for the what is right and in equality for all. In day four students learn about the culture of Alabama in the 1950's. Finally in day five students learn how the Civil Rights Movement effected economics. Students were able to learn the information in five days.

Strand 2 (World History): Concept 9 (Contemporary World): PO 1.
Strand 3 (Civics/Government): Concept 4 (Rights, Responsibilities and Roles of Citizenship): PO 2: b. PO 3.
Strand 4 (Geography): Concept 4 (Human Systems): PO 1.
Strand 5 (Economics): Concept 1 (Foundations of Economics): PO 1, PO 2, PO 3.
