Exploring Poetry through Jamaican Music

Teacher Page

This lesson was created with the intention of supporting teachers who would like to enhance students' self expression, and develop in them an appreciation for poetry. They will learn elements such as mood, tone, rhyme, rhythm and literary devices, as well as use music (Jamaican music in particular) to enhance learning.

Before assigning the quest, I recommend that teachers expose students to poetry and poetic devices and provide background knowledge on elements of poetry. The lesson is simple, and the tasks are easy enough to do without support or supervision from the teacher. Students will also need at least one and a half hour to complete.
