Favorite String Instrument

Focus:

This webquest focuses on the four major string instruments: violin, viola, cello, and bass.  The objective of this webquest is to educate students on these instruments and get them excited about playing one themselves!  They will become familiar with researching (using the internet, books, and other resources available to them).  This webquest also allows students to work together, developing good social skills.

 

Objective/Goals:

I would recommend using this project after you have introduced basic musical terms, such as quartet, orchestra sections, dynamic markings, tempo markings-like allegro, presto, and knowledge about notes and different clefs.  By having some basic knowledge about music, the students will have a better understanding about what they are learning.  The students will also be learning about composers, and other influential people involved with these instruments.  They will learn how to properly use search engines and find media files online.  They will also learn how to cite sources in MLA format.

Technology Needs/Material Needs:

Since students will be working in groups of four, it is not necessary for each student to have their own computer.
