Bailes de Amrica Latina

Teacher Page

Dear Educators,

This webquest assignment allows students to choose, research, present, and teach/perform a dance from Latin America. Dance and music play a huge role in the Latin American culture. The students are given the flexibility of choosing which dance they research and what their final product will be: teaching a dance or performing a dance via video. This assignment should not take more than two weeks. My students will have about thirty minutes of class time each day to research their dance, prepare a a presentation, and learn eight simple steps of the dance. I would advise teachers to not give students too much independence on choosing a dance they want to do, because some of the dances may not be appropriate for school.

Standards

Connections to Language & Literacy CLL (Comparisons)
Here is a list of the North Carolina World Language Standards:

Connections to Language and Literacy:

students on language and literacy.

NL.CLL.4 Compare the students culture
and the target culture.
NL.CLL.4.1 Compare behaviors, such as gestures and greetings, in
the target culture and the students culture.
NL.CLL.4.2 Recognize cultural expectations of people in both the
target culture and the students culture.
NH.CMT.4.1 Compare traditions and events of the target culture
and the students culture.
IL.CMT.4.1 Integrate traditions and activities of the target culture
and the students culture

For exceptional students this assignment can be modified. If the student has a physical disability that inhibits her/him from dancing the dance they could still participate to the best of their ability.
