 INTENDED AUDIENCE:

This WebQuest is designed for 6-8th grade health students.

FOCUS:

This WebQuest focuses on the nutritional content found in fast foods.  The students will have the opportunity to create their own pyramid plan based on their individual needs.  They will also chose and review one meal from a fast food chain.  Next, they will analyze the nutritional content of the meal and if time allows, they will chose healthier options based on what they need from the RDA chart, nutritional chart and their individual pyramid plan.

OBJECTIVE/GOALS:

I designed this webquest for use in a health unit where the students have already become familiar with the nutritional needs using a nutritional powerpoint and another webquest:

The students will demonstrate the ability to choose healthier options from fast food restaurants.

The students will analyze the nutritional content found in a fast food meal of their choice and calculate what is healthy versus unhealthy about the meal.

Addaptations for students with special needs:

If you have students with special needs, you can eliminate the calculations for the restaurant recording sheets by:

in step 1:   have the students enter age =13, sex= male and activity level = less than 30 minutes  This will give them a standard 2000 calorie per day diet.  Then use this restaurant recording sheet below where I have already made the calculations based on the nutritional needs of a 2000 calorie diet.
