Music Cultures of The World

You will research the music culture from a country/location in your assigned region of the world (Middle East, Native American, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, Aboriginal Australia, or Latin America) and document its defining musical characteristics. Include a vocabulary page that defines important and relevant terms from the culture. Additionally, you will document the cultural context of each type of music, including it's purpose (religious, social, ceremonial, etc.), as well as any traditional garb necessary. You will present your research to the class in the form of a PowerPoint, ending with a performance of a song from that culture. You must perform with at least one instrument that you have made (ex. cardboard maracas, a hand-made mbira, etc.) from that culture. If appropriate, you should wear attire that is representative of the cultural tradition.
