Task One

Before you begin your pamphlet, please answer the following on a separate sheet of paper. You will need to hand this in with your completed pamphlet.


1. What is domestic violence?
a. What are the 5 types of violence?
b. What do you think is the worst type of abuse and why?


2. Explain the cycle of abuse.
a. What is Battered Woman Syndrome?
b. Why do many abused women find it difficult to leave their abusive relationship?


3. What are the signs and symptoms of abuse?
a. Based on what you’ve learned, how do you think women may try to hide the signs that they are being abused?


4. Based on what you’ve learned, explain what puts a woman at risk of being abused.
a. Based on your knowledge of the history of Indigenous people in Canada, explain, in your own words, why Indigenous women experience domestic violence more often than non-Indigenous women.


5. What community resources can women use to get help in Winnipeg?
a. If you lived outside of Winnipeg, how would you find resources to get help?
b. What resources are available for Indigenous women living in northern communities such as Shamattawa, Pukatuwagon, Koostakak or Norway House?

Task Two

Using the information you collected for task one, create an informational pamphlet on domestic violence against women.

Your pamphlet should be created digitally, double sided, and on letter sized paper. You will be marked on content and organization, creativity and visual aesthetic, and spelling, grammar and punctuation.
