Character and Characterization

General Objectives

By the end of this lesson, you should:

1.     know the characters in the novel, Harriet's daughter by Marlene Nourbese Philip, and be able to classify them as main or minor characters.

2.   understand how to assess the characterization of specific characters based on what they do, what they say, and what others say about them.

Specific Objectives

By the end of the lesson, you should be able to:

1.     recall and identify the characters in the novel.

2.   explain what makes a character a main or a minor character.

3.   classify characters as being main or minor.

4.   explain the term "characterization".

5.    describe the characteristics of specific characters and give justifications for their descriptions.

6.   appraise the values and attitudes expressed by the characters and how they affect everyday living.
