The telecom industry is dominated by a handful of carriers, with little change over the years in the market share. Although most of these carriers provide similar services, devices, and features, there are some standouts to be considered. 

STEP 1 

You should look at the smaller carriers and try to determine why they lack the ability to expand within a marketplace where there is little variation in devices and features provided by the various carriers. One example would be that the iPhone can be purchased from almost any wireless carrier, but has been continuously purchased in the United States from the same 4 carriers for many years. Why is this a fact?

Conduct research using reputable sources including online research, articles, scholarly journals, encyclopedias, etc to gather as much information as needed to fully understand the issue at hand and grasp the possible reasons for the issue. 

STEP 2 

a. You will first need to understand the basic makeup of the Wireless Cellular network and the infrastructure that comes together to make the connection possible. The cost to put this network into place and maintain its integrity while expanding to provide coverage to an ever increasing market. We are more connected today than at any time in our history.

b. This can be follow by some research on the top 4 or 5 carriers presently and their various market shares.

c. You can conduct some research on the next 4 or 5 carriers and their market share, features, and possible reasons why they fail to expand enough to compete with the larger carriers.

d. Do research on some market opinions, statistical data, and personal experience can be considered to compare these carriers and the reason they are in the position in the marketplace that they currently occupy. Factors to consider may include: reliability, cost, available features, devices, reputation, and advertising.

e. This can be followed up by including some personal experience with any of these carriers. Your likes, dislikes, and preferences.

STEP 3 

You can then compile this data into tables to represent the pros and cons of the large carriers vs pros and cons of the smaller carriers. From the data collected, what are the three top reasons for the exclusivity of the wireless telecom industry? Why are these smaller carriers relegated to the slice on the pie chart labelled other? Compile this data into these tables and use this data to craft a research paper to express your findings. The final paper should ultimately answer the question. Why isn't there more competition in the wireless telecommunications marketplace?
