WELCOME TO THE UNITED KINGDOM

At the school entrance there will be a desk decorated with the Welcome sign and Shakespeare's figure next to it. There will be also a red rose as the official flower of the UK as well as a bulldog in the UK raincoat as the official animal of the country. Two 6th class students, you will open the week. After listening to God Save the Queen all your friends will go to their classrooms. (Every decorations will be done during the art lessons.)

During these five days each class will have a guided tour through the school corridors. It will be  like travelling through the UK with tourist guides (you, 8th and 7th graders) . Tourist guides will be  dressed in Griffindor's colours representing Hermione and Harry Potter.

At the very beginning of the tour you will take your friends on a journey through geography of the UK and you will get to know which countries make the UK and which are their capitals. Your friends will hear of Ben Nevis and Loch Ness as well as the Channel Tunnel connecting the UK andFrance. 

You will move through history represented by the famous queens such as Elizabeth I, Mary,Queen of Scots, thenVictoria and Elizabeth II (one 7th grade student will greet them as the Queen). Your friends  will also "meet" King Henry VIII and his six wives. They will find out many facts about the royal family and its members including the latest member, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge:-)

You will learn something about the UK governement and the famous PMs such as Sir Winston Churchill, Lady MargaretThatcher, Tony Blair and the current PM David Cameron.

There will be  a poster on two very prestigious universities - Oxford and Cambridge and the Boat race in whichthey traditionally participate. The guides will present them.

You  will see all famous landmarks of London (using the video from Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyZYhLnLRXE ). You will revise many well-known landmarks also thanks to the poster containing infomation about them. But there will be also many paper models of those landmarks such as the Buckingham Palace, Saint Paul's Cathedral, London Eye, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, and many more.(made on the technical education  lessons and workshops with your teachers)

You  will enjoy learning about the film and music industry including names such as Daniel Radcliffe, OrlandoBloom, Kate Winslet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sir Anthony Hopkins, the Beatles,Adele, Sir Elton John, Amy Winehouse, and many more. You  will meet some of them, having the interviews with them, listening to the Beatles (6th graders will be dressed like them, and you will act like you are having the concert),using the videos from Youtube) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWP6Qki8mWc

You will hear of Monty Python's Flying CircusThe Darling Buds of MayOnly Fools and Horses and their favourite one - Mr Bean...and of course, his Teddy.

Literature will be  represented by two great writers - William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. (two students will read parts of the literature)

The last poster in line will present a festival of their choice - Saint Patrick's Day which will be all coloured ingreen. 

Since we all love to eat, we will have to mention some traditional dishes such as fish and chips, Irish stew, haggis,cottage pie and Yorkshire pudding. And very important tradion of drinking the 5o'clock tea. You will drink tea with milk, with the Queen :-) (With the help of our lady cooks,)

You will have a chance to read three stories around the school library - Scottish Tomlin, IrishTheGiant's Wife and English The Gingerbread Boy. There will be a desk with many books written in English that you can borrow from the school library.

Last in line will be a Powerpoint presentation on the UK done by the 8th class students. It will have everything - geography, history, landmarks, universities, film, TV shows,music, literature but also the UK national parks and famous sports (the most important being soccer, of course).

During each break there will be a student in charge for playing a CD with the UK music. The list will include the Beatles, Queen, Sir Elton John, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Robbie Williams, U2 and One Direction.

The 1st ,2nd and 3rd class students will have a workshop on making the UK flag called Union Jack, a guard, and a dog;  while the 4th and 5th class students will have  a film workshop Paddington followed by making a poster based on the film.
