Process

Students are now ready to complete this 8-step obstacle course. Before beginning this obstacle course, students will be checking their heart rate with the specialized heart rate watches. If students aren't able to complete any of the tasks to its entirety, its alright. The number one thing I'm looking for is EFFORT. I want to see that you're trying to complete the tasks in the obstacle courses. The 8 steps in the Physical Education Obstacle Course are:

  1. 1. Run a lap around the track. One lap around the track is a quarter mile. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/ans/psychology/health_psychology/running.html
  2. 2. After the lap, students will get a basketball and shoot a basket into the hoop from any spot on the court. Once a shot is made, student will be able to move on to the next stage. http://www.goforyourlife.vic.gov.au/hav/articles.nsf/pages/Basketball_health_benefits?OpenDocument
  3. 3. Students will now grab a football and throw into the tire from the designated spot. Football must be thrown into the tire. http://info.specialolympics.org/Special+Olympics+Public+Website/English/Coach/Coaching_Guides/Football/The+Benefits+of+Football.htm
  4. 4. Students will now have to complete 20 sit ups.
  5. 5. After the sit ups, students will go to the mat and do 20 push ups. http://www.armystudyguide.com/content/EIB/Task_Summary/perform-pushups-perform-s.shtml
  6. 6. Students will than grab a soccer ball and dribble it down the field and score a goal. http://www.sportspundit.com/article/14/
  7. 7. Once the goal is scored, students will grab a jump rope and do 10 jumps with the jump rope. http://www.ropesport.com/jump_ropes_fitness_benefits_burn_1000_calories_per_hour.php
  8. 8. When done with the jump rope, students will run back to the track where they started. Once students reach the endpoint, they have completed the obstacle course!! Students will now check their heart rate and compare it to their heart rate before they started. As they will see, a steady heart rate is good and shows that the student is doing good exercise.  http://www.shapefit.com/benefits-heart-rate-training.html
*Water may be obtained at anytime during the obstacle course. Please ask teacher for permission during the obstacle course.
