Aspects of Native American Life
Students will show how traditional art and customs of various American Indians are impacted by the environment through their creation of a dream catcher.
Prior Knowledge:
Students will have a general understanding of Native Americans and the impact they had on United States history.
Length of Lesson:
This lesson should take about (2) sixty minute long class periods to complete.
This activity will meet the Kansas state Standards for 5th grade Social Studies.
Standards:
History: The student uses a working knowledge and understanding of significant individuals, groups, ideas, events, ears, and developments in the history of Kansas, the United States, and the world, utilizing essential analytical and research skills.
Benchmark 1:
The student uses a working knowledge and understanding of individuals, groups, ideas, developments, and turning points in the age of exploration.
Indicator 2:
Shows how traditional art and customs of various American Indians are impacted by the environment (e.g., Plains, Woodland, Northwest Coast, Southeast and Pueblo cultures in the period from (1700-1820).
