Tornado in the Library

Introduction

The weather was bad on the way to school. On the car radio the announcer said the conditions were right for a tornado. In the middle of math class the tornado sirens sounded. There was a howling sound and loud crashing on the other end of the school, and then everything was quiet.  The principle’s voice sounded over the intercom,

“Students thankfully most of the school was left untouched by the tornado, except the library. I am sorry to say that the roof was blown off the library and all of the books, and the librarian were sucked out by the wind. The books are scattered all over the playground, and we have just received word that the tornado carried Mrs. Toto, the librarian all the way to the coast where she landed on the couch in the reception area of a luxurious beach front hotel. The hotel’s owners saw the whole thing on the news, and insisted that Mrs. Toto stay several days in a complementary suite and recover from her minor injuries (mostly paper cuts received during her time spinning in the tornado’s vortex with the library books.) The luxurious hotel’s owners have also sent their cleaning staff to assist in putting the library books back on the shelves. The cleaning staff does not know how to use the Dewey Decimal System and will need an instructional presentation to help them put the library books back where they belong. It is up to you students to work together to provide the cleaning crew with the needed information to restore the library before the librarian returns.”
