Introduction

An effective introduction is like the first page of a novel you can't put down. It "hooks" the reader immediately.  It should provide the viewer with a "picture" of what lies ahead- providing just enough stimulation to encourage the viewer to enter the Quest. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.  Here are some suggestions:

  • Use a thoughtful, inspiring, or provocative quotation.
  • Appeal to the reader's intellectual , spiritual, or philosophical nature by asking  an "essential question".
  • Share a story which evokes emotion from the reader, creating  a personal connection with the topic
  • Provoke the reader's curiosity by presenting a mystery to be investigated or a problem to be solved
  • Inspire the viewer's motivation by introducing goals that can be acheived by studying the topic.
  • Explain to the viewer how relevant the topic is to their life. Provide the answer to the question "Why does this matter?"
  • Introduce  a shocking statistic- then ellborate on its relevance to the topic.
  • Include a compelling image.
Your introduction should be  fairly brief, and should not include the tasks of the WebQuest or detailed information. Those aspects will appear later in your WebQuest.
