"Teacher, why do I need to write 5-paragraph essays? They are boring. They all look and sound the same."

If you have studied previously at CESL or another American university, you may agree with the quote above. Why DO you need to learn the 5-paragraph essay structure? It gives you an easy way to organize your ideas. Also, native English speakers expect a certain type of organization when they read your essays: introduction with hook and thesis statement, body paragraphs, and a conclusion that restates the thesis and offers an opinion/prediction/suggestion. Often, this type of organization is described like this: "Tell your audience what you're going to tell them. Tell them. Tell them what you told them." Yes, you are going to repeat information, but that's okay. It may take time to make your writing fit into the 5-paragraph essay structure, but it will help your readers understand what you want to say.
