Holocaust: Nightmare or Necessity?

Introduction

The Holocaust is a Greek word meaning "under fire." During the reign of Adolf Hitler during World War II, the Jewish people were "under fire" as the Aryan race was deemed supreme. The Jewish people (among others) faced genocide. Many did not survive. Their story is one that has been told from the perspective of a never ending nightmare. Over the course of this week, you will hear the tale of these events from 2 guest speakers. Each will share a different view point of events. You job will be to decide for yourself who's tale is the true picture of Germany during World War II. Forget all you have heard in the past and prepare yourself for a whole new look at the Holocaust.

To help prepare you for the week ahead,  please complete the following vocabulary worksheet over the weekend. This will be due on Monday, the first day of our lessons on the Holocaust. We will be improving our definitions and understanding of these terms as we progress through this unit.

You language arts teacher says you all did an amazing job on your book projects in her class. Two of the best projects are featured below. As we explore the Holocaust this week, think back to what you read. How did you feel while reading? How did the characters in your novel feel? Does what you read correlate to what you are learning now? How?
