Design Challenge: Design a vehicle

You are an engineer who lives near the castle where the Giant lives. You have noticed Jack looking for something frantically and noticed him holding a golden egg in his hand. Jack asks for your help to design a vehicle for him to transport his egg safely to the ground.

Your task is to design a vehicle to help Jack get his egg safely down to his mum. The vehicle must carry the uncooked egg from 2metres above the ground level (where Jack is) safely to the ground, where Jacks mum is waiting.

You only have the following materials available to help Jack build a vehicle:

  • 1 large handkerchief
  • 1 uncooked egg
  • String
  • Cardboard
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors
  • Egg carton
         Range of materials:
  • Sorted pieces plastic, fabric and paper
  • Shopping size paper bag
  • Cotton wool
  • Tissues

Note: Using above materials, you will design a transportation vehicle to carry an uncooked egg from 2metres above the ground to the ground. You will need to consider how your design would protect the very delicate egg during transportation.

Now that you know your materials and task, lets go to the next step. Click on the Investigate tab (on the top, left hand side of page)
