Inconclusion, for almost 30 centuries�from its unification around 3100 B.C. toits conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C.�ancient Egypt was thepreeminent civilization in the Mediterranean world. From the great pyramids ofthe Old Kingdom through the military conquests of the New Kingdom, Egypt�smajesty has long entranced archaeologists and historians and created a vibrantfield of study all its own: Egyptology. The main sources of information aboutancient Egypt are the many monuments, objects and artifacts that have beenrecovered from archaeological sites, covered with hieroglyphs that have onlyrecently been deciphered.

Thepicture that emerges is of a culture with few equals in the beauty of its art,the accomplishment of its architecture or the richness of its religioustraditions.

WhileAncient Egypt prosperous reign comes to an end, on the other side of the worldand in a different time line emerge a vast empire in Mesoamerica, The AztecEmpire.

TheAztecs, who probably originated as a nomadic tribe in northern Mexico, arrivedon Mesoamerica around the beginning of the 13th century. From their magnificentcapital city, Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs emerged as the dominant force in centralMexico, developing an intricate social, political, religious and commercialorganization that brought many of the region�s city-states under their controlby the 15th century. Invaders led by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortesoverthrew the Aztecs by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521, bringing anend to Mesoamerica�s last great native civilization
