Welcome: Living in the Great Depression
Description: Introduction: This assignment is set up to have students, who are in grades 9-11, in groups of 3 representing a family. The students will research cost of living, and lack of income during the great depression. The students will need to determine how to make a budget for a family of three during this period in history. The real aspect of this WebQuest will help the students learn how to make a budget; along with making hard choices on what they can afford. Hopefully, the students will never have to deal with a great depression but can use this time in history to help them solve economic issues of today. The WebQuest is rich because students would be learning about how to research the Great Depression along with using math skills to figure out how to put a budget together according to their income. This WebQuest is relevant as the student in their adult life will need to have a budget, they will also have to understand how to search the web for answers. The students will also have to report their findings, by presenting it to the class, which is real, rich, and relevant. Students need to learn how to create a presentation and then present their finding to the class. That concept alone will help them if they decided to go to college, since professors require Word, PowerPoint, or Excel the majority of the time.
