Welcome: Using Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and the Social Cognitive Theory in a Social Studies Class
Description: I want students to understand cognitive psychology by choosing a war they know the least amount of information about from past Social Studies classes. I want them to know, once students get into groups, what they know about the war after being shown pictures and videos of each war the United States has participated in and have them group off into the wars they know least about. The teacher will use positive reinforcement by rewarding the students for their work in the project, which that reward will be a surprise to the students. The teacher can use these to help motivate students behavior into accomplishing a goal. The teacher should evaluate the behavior within a group and make sure each student is indeed working together on the project. Students should be talking amongst their groups and be mindful of everyone's opinion. Students will use social-cognitive skills when they get into groups with others and construct knowledge together to prepare and organize a good project.
